Note 1
I was fortunate to talk
with Harold Nelson of Riverdale in Toronto as his father had been a
sergeant in the Royal North-West Mounted Police and he related a story
which I include here. I will try to get other stories to add when I next
see him.
Harold told me that the
police were very much like a local police force with the obvious
difference that they had hundreds of miles of territory to cover. I was
told that every two years these police officers were transferred to
different areas as the Ottawa government were concerned that they had
undue political influence on the local population and so by moving them
around they would be less likely to influence the people in an election. |
