Dr. M. A. McIntyre, a
highly trained and therefore most efficient member of the dental
profession, practicing successfully at Edmonton, was born in Ontario, in
1887, and is a son of Duncan and Mary (O'Hara) McIntyre, who were
natives of the north of Scotland and of Ontario, respectively. They now
make their home in Ontario, where for many years the father followed
farming but is now living retired, having won a substantial measure of
success in the conduct of his business affairs. He and his wife are
members of the Presbyterian church, in which he has served as an elder
for the past thirty years and he is also an Orangeman. Politically his
support is given to the Conservative party and he has served as a member
of the council, while at the present time he is filling the offices of
assessor and school trustee. He keeps well informed on the questions and
issues of the day and gives his allegiance to all those plans and
measures which he believes will prove of public benefit.
Al. A. McIntyre was the
third in order of birth in a family of four children and acquired his
early education in the Forest high school, from which he was graduated
with the class of 1903. He then took up the profession of teaching,
which he followed successfully for five years, imparting readily and
clearly to others the knowledge that he had acquired. In this way he
earned the money that enabled him to pursue his dental course and he
also added to his exchequer by working in various other ways. In 1907 he
matriculated in the Royal Dental College, from which he was graduated
with the class of 1912. He began practice at Nelson, British Columbia,
and in 1913 came to Edmonton, where he has practiced continuously since,
making steady advancement in his chosen calling. Ambitious to render his
efforts of the highest possible service he has taken dental postgraduate
courses, including the Smith course in oral surgery and special training
ill work. He continues in the general practice of dentistry to which he
devotes practically his entire time and his practice is now very
extensive.
In 1914 Dr. McIntyre was
married to Miss Myrtle Frost, who was born ill Ontario, and educated in
the high school there, after which she taught school for six years. Dr.
and Mrs. McIntyre have two children: Donald and Jeanne, the latter five
years of age. The parents are members of the Presbyterian church and Dr.
McIntyre is a thirty-second degree Mason. He turns to hunting for his
recreation and is one of the original and genial members of the Gun
Club. While his ability in the practice of dentistry has gained him high
professional standing, his social qualities have won him wide popularity
among his many friends. |
