Here we are about to engrave a cigarette
case...
Here is Billy getting the computer graphics
out from his vast store that he has built up over many years. The computer
interfaces with the laser to produce the engraving. On the right you can
see the case already in the laser compartment with it's special glass
mixture already spead on. This glass will be melted into the steel
to produce the crest and even a grinder has a hard job of removing it so it
will last for ever.
And it is very important that the laser height
is exact as too high and it won't make a permanent engraving and too low
and it will melt the steel. On the right you can see the completed laser
cut
You should note the tape over the edge.
Billy told me that due to the heat the case can spring open during the
laser process so he just takes the precaution of using holding tape just
in case. The cigarette case is then put to the wash and polished and the
completed product is as you see it above..
I'm told that this item is now very popular
since various countries took to insisting large health warnings should go
onto cigarette packets. |
